All bets on Ja­pan ex­change

It was all glitz and glam­our as pun­ters chipped in to­wards a cul­tural ex­change in Ja­pan for For­est View High School stu­dents.

The June 20 casino night run by Mad Hat­ters Event Man­age­ment raised funds for the trip.

An im­pres­sive 133 peo­ple came to the South Waikato Sports and Events Cen­tre to bet on roulette, and cards with fake money.

Prof­its went to­wards the trip for the group of seven stu­dents.

While the to­tal amount fundraised is yet to be tal­lied, teacher in charge of the ex­change, Te­upoko Natua said the year 9-13 stu­dents had reached their tar­get.

The ex­change with sis­ter school, Misato Kita High School is in its 16th year.

The two-week trip in Septem­ber com­prises five days with a host fam­ily then the group will ex­plore places such as Toyko and Hiroshima.

The $1000 play money chips were ready to be spent by Dy­lan Jaffe, left, Matt Bro­man, Sean Gil­lard and Dy­lan Dixon.
