South Waikato News - - Your Place, Your Paper -

Well the Leith Place development sure has people up in arms doesn’t it?

Last week we had the South Waikato District Council’s own chief executive warning of a possible ghost town if something wasn’t drastically done now to position Tokoroa for the future.

There’s a lot to be said for getting the tourists to stop in town on route to the popular tourist towns like Taupo and you can’t blame the council for wanting to try and get some of those tourists dollars to be spent in Tokoroa.

But is it a reality? Will people really stop if Leith Place is redeveloped? Tirau is already a popular spot for tourists to stop and refresh, so does the council really think Tokoroa can compete with that? Well yes - but it has to offer up something different. That’s where a playground would work wonders.

I regularly stop in Ohope on route from Hamilton to Gisborne simply because they have a destination playground. If Tokoroa had one too, surely it would be of benefit.
