It is utterly appalling that a memorial to a woman’s dead son has been vandalised. Launa-anne Smith laid the memorial in her son Lanikohurangi’s memory, so for someone to come along throw away a photograph, flowers, and an obsidian stone is disgusting.

I can only hope that whoever did it reads this and takes a good hard look at themselves.

How would they feel if this was done to the memorial of someone they loved?

I hope that this never happens again and Launa-anna can grieve her son properly in peace.

In another shocking story this week we have a chat to two families who lost everything in fires in Tokoroa last week.

I know the community will be rallying around to help them during this dreadful time, as it has always done.

But our thoughts are with them.

I’ll be off on holiday when you read this, but look forward to catching up with you all when I return.
