Yet another child has been attacked by a dog.

This time the poor victim was 5-year-old Noah Teaukura who had to go to hospital after the dog bit him, puncturing his left cheek.

The responsible dog is yet to be found and his family are now, rightfully, worried that a dangerous dog is on the loose.

We hear all too often about these attacks.

Just last month four Tokoroa school boys were attacked by another dog, seriously injuring one of the boys.

I think it’s time to start asking the tough questions like why is it that these dogs are left to roam in the first place?

Is it time to introduce a licence as such for dog owners - to make them sit a test and prove they are responsible owners before they are allowed a dog?

That might well help- but how do you enforce this?

I certainly don’t have the answers, but I think more discussion needs to be had to ensure the safety of our mokopuna.
