Biker’s thirty years of com­mit­ment re­warded

A Toko­roa bike en­thu­si­ast is is proud to have his name in­ducted into the hall of fame along­side New Zealand greats like, Burt Munro and Jim Brit­ten.

Sean Clarke was given the pres­ti­gious hon­our at a cer­e­mony held at Te Papa Mu­seum re­cenlty.

A man of few words, Clarke said he was hon­oured to be recog­nised for his work and ac­knowl­edged his wife for the sup­port.

‘‘She had al­ways helped me or­gan­ise the events and I al­ways get the credit for it. I want her to be ac­knowl­edged for ev­ery­thing she does.’’

He was joined by Tim Gibbes from Palmer­ston North and Lower Hutt’s Paul Trea­cy­who were recog­nised for their work in the mo­tor­cy­cling in­dus­try.

Clarke is hum­bled by the award doesn’t want to make a fuss and is happy to con­tinue do­ing what he loves.

Se­nior stew­ard for Mo­tor­cy­cling NZ Robin Atkins said Clarke has done a lot for mo­tor­cy­cling and de­served the recog­ni­tion.

‘‘He’s a nice per­son and it’s what he does for other peo­ple. His wife de­serves a medal too.

‘‘I nom­i­nated him and a lot of peo­ple agreed with it.

‘‘I wrote ev­ery­thing he has done to help other rid­ers and ev­ery­thing he had achieved.

‘‘It’s re­ally what he’s done for the gen­eral pub­lic as a sport that needs to be hon­oured.’’

Clarke was also named as a Am­bas­sador to NZ Mo­tor­cy­cle Sport and In­dus­try.

In­volved in the sport for 30-years he has ticked up an im­pres­sive list of achieve­ments.

He has won the NZ enduro cham­pion and Tarawera 100 Cross Coun­try Cham­pi­onship sev­eral times and con­tin­ued to win gold at the International Six Day Enduro held in Aus­tralia in 1992 and 1998.

Clarke was also been the man be­hind host­ing the ISDE in Taupo 2006.

New Zealand won the pres­ti­gious Watling Tro­phy first time which was awarded to or­gan­is­ers in­stead of a team.

In the same year he was named Ad­min­is­tra­tor of the Year at the South Waikato Sports Awards.

‘‘My wife and kids have been a ma­jor part of this jour­ney.

‘‘The sup­port from all the team, I couldn’t have done it with­out their sup­port,’’ he said.

Sean Clarke cred­its his suc­cess to his fam­ily and sup­port­ers.
