Biker’s thirty years of commitment rewarded
A Tokoroa bike enthusiast is is proud to have his name inducted into the hall of fame alongside New Zealand greats like, Burt Munro and Jim Britten.
Sean Clarke was given the prestigious honour at a ceremony held at Te Papa Museum recenlty.
A man of few words, Clarke said he was honoured to be recognised for his work and acknowledged his wife for the support.
‘‘She had always helped me organise the events and I always get the credit for it. I want her to be acknowledged for everything she does.’’
He was joined by Tim Gibbes from Palmerston North and Lower Hutt’s Paul Treacywho were recognised for their work in the motorcycling industry.
Clarke is humbled by the award doesn’t want to make a fuss and is happy to continue doing what he loves.
Senior steward for Motorcycling NZ Robin Atkins said Clarke has done a lot for motorcycling and deserved the recognition.
‘‘He’s a nice person and it’s what he does for other people. His wife deserves a medal too.
‘‘I nominated him and a lot of people agreed with it.
‘‘I wrote everything he has done to help other riders and everything he had achieved.
‘‘It’s really what he’s done for the general public as a sport that needs to be honoured.’’
Clarke was also named as a Ambassador to NZ Motorcycle Sport and Industry.
Involved in the sport for 30-years he has ticked up an impressive list of achievements.
He has won the NZ enduro champion and Tarawera 100 Cross Country Championship several times and continued to win gold at the International Six Day Enduro held in Australia in 1992 and 1998.
Clarke was also been the man behind hosting the ISDE in Taupo 2006.
New Zealand won the prestigious Watling Trophy first time which was awarded to organisers instead of a team.
In the same year he was named Administrator of the Year at the South Waikato Sports Awards.
‘‘My wife and kids have been a major part of this journey.
‘‘The support from all the team, I couldn’t have done it without their support,’’ he said.
