Forest View gets glitzy for ball

South Waikato News - - Out & About - TAMARA THORN

Glamorous ladies and stylish men gathered together recently to enjoy their night at the Forest View High School Empire ball.

The theme was derived from the TV Programme of the same name and incorporated hip hop as an influence.

The decision of the theme was made by the ball committee who was made up by a collection of year 11 to year 13 students.

In charge of the ball was Aaron Mutua who said everything went to plan.

‘‘I was stoked with everything, right from the red carpet entry to the kids enjoying their whole night.’’

He said he knew it was a success when the kids didn’t want to stop dancing.

The highlight for Mutua was the red carpet and ‘‘seeing young people feel like they are Hollywood stars’’.

He said the atmosphere that was created outside by the people supporting and taking photos helped to set the mood.

For the first time Forest View held their ball inside their school at their auditorium.

Mutua said there was a task in trying to make the auditorium look like a place that wasn’t familiar to the students but thought they had managed to achieve that.

A huge number of people from the community came to support the young people on the red carpet which Mutu said was awesome.

‘‘There would have been hundreds.’’

He said: ‘‘When students come to school on a Monday morning and say how much of an awesome night it was, you know it was a success.’’
