Surge in criminal activity

South Waikato News - - Your Paper, Your Place - SENIOR SERGEANT JASON HENDERSON Family violence

Last week we had nine burglaries which is high for us. Six of these took place in the Balmoral Dr and southern end of Maraetai Rd area so they have been quite localised.

All sorts of items have been targeted so make sure all property is secured by locking doors and windows.

People in this area also need to be vigilant and call 111, the station on 885 0100, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if they see any suspicious people hanging around or if they know where this property is going.

There were 19 reports of family violence made to police over the week and eight people have been charged with various offences.

The main message I want to get across is to seek help early before you find a situation is getting out of hand. Call us for assistance or one of the many support agencies out there.

The thing with family violence is it can affect anyone regardless of age, race, or background.

If you see signs of family violence affecting family or friends talk to them and make sure they are okay. There is also no harm in reporting things to us on their behalf so we can get agencies involved to help them.
