Awards night at theatre
.The South Waikato looks set to have some great stage productions coming up if the Tokoroa Little Theatre’s Playwrite’16 script writing competition is anything to go by.
The competition saw entries of eight one act plays from six authors and five judges from the South Waikato were asked to read, score and comment on each, with scores then tallied to determine competition placings.
Tokoroa Little Theatre secretary and judge Iris Menzies said she was impressed by the level of talent.
‘‘There was a good mix of authors entered from across the district and their plays had some very interesting themes and ideas. I can’t wait to see how some of the pieces look on stage,’’ she said.
An award evening was held at the theatre where certificates and cash prizes were presented to the successful writers.
Putaruru author Steve Hill entered three scripts with first prize going to his play entitled ‘‘Unspoken’’ and third prize for his ‘‘Visiting Hours’’.
Tokoroa’s Graham Lauder took second place with his play ‘‘Caged’’.
Two entries were received in the Youth category. ‘‘Best Laid Plans’’ by Melanie Allison from Putaruru placed first with ‘‘Take Me Down’’ by Navpreet Kaur from Tokoroa placing second.
Audiences should have an opportunity to see some of the plays staged next year.
