Countdown’s high tea for a loyal rest home
Silver teapots and floral plates were put to good use during a special high tea at Putaruru’s Cardrona Resthome and Hospital.
The high tea was a surprise from Countdown Putaruru as a way of saying thank you for the rest home’s loyal custom.
In their own time staff made all sorts of tasty cakes, slices, club sandwiches, and asparagus rolls which went down a treat with the overjoyed residents.
Countdown manager Lisa Martin said it was all part of the store’s focus on giving back to the community.
‘‘They have supported us so this is our way of giving back and I am very proud of the team,’’ she said.
‘‘Jackie Holt came up with the idea and everything has been homemade by her and Violet Double.’’
Martin said the team was pleased the residents had enjoyed themselves.
‘‘They have absolutely loved it and have been very surprised,’’ she said.
Registered nurse Krizia Bacar said it had been lovely seeing the home’s 27 residents enjoy themselves so much.
‘‘We have one resident who normally has her tea and meal in her room but the moment we invited her she said she would love to come,’’ she said.
‘‘I am very grateful to Countdown, it is overwhelming actually.’’
Fellow registered nurse Joyce Tuplano said the rest home goes to Countdown everyday to buy supplies so it was nice to be appreciated.
‘‘We encouraged all the residents to join in and it was great feeling the energy today,’’ she said.
