Ironmaori event coming to Taupo in the new year
Ironmen and Ironmaori will both be calling Taupo home next year.
Tuwharetoa Maori Trust Board announced it has secured the rights to host the iconic Ironmaori event in Taupo next March.
The new event will be called Ironman Taupo-nui-a-tia and will take place on march 18.
Chief Executive Topia Rameka said the Trust Board is proud to be the main sponsor and is committed to making the event a success.
‘‘Ironmaori Taupo-nui-a-tia will be an exciting and fun event that is open to everyone,’’ he said.
‘‘For Nga¯ ti Tu¯ wharetoa, this kaupapa is really important – it’s about supporting and encouraging healthy lifestyles for the whole wha¯ nau and community.
‘‘We will be encouraging as many locals as possible to enter the event,

and to give our Tu¯ wharetoa wha¯ nau a bit of extra motivation we’ll be offering them subsidised entry fees.’’
Ironmaori Founder Heather Skipworth said Ironmaori is continuing to grow in popularity, and will be held in five locations around New Zealand in 2017.
‘‘We are expecting around 15,000 participants overall, with Napier hosting five of the 10 events this coming year,’’ she said.
The Taupo event includes several adult and children’s categories next year.
