Live comedy kicks of year

South Waikato News - - Your Paper, Your Place - PUTARURU THEATRE PLAYERS

Rehearsals for the Putaruru Theatre Players first production for the year are well and truly underway.

The Amorous Ambassador, directed by long time stalwart of the theatre Hilton Woodroofe, is promising to give audiences plenty of laughs when its cast takes to the stage from Thursday, April 27.

The play centres around Harry Douglas (aka John Mclean), a new American Ambassador to Great Britain.

When he tells his family he is going to Scotland to play golf, his wife and daughter announce weekend plans of their own. This is when the fun begins.

Putaruru Theatre Players member Jay Ward said it was not one to be missed.

‘‘Their newly hired butler Perkins watches stoically as each leaves and secretly returns for a romantic rendezvous in what is supposed to be an empty house,’’ she said.

‘‘Harry’s secretary and Captain South of the Marine Corp on embassy security then arrive with a bomb threat and the embassy is sealed off, with hilarious results.’’

The cast will take to the stage on Thursday 27, Friday 28, and Saturday 29 at 7.30pm.

From Wednesday, May 3-5 dinner will also be available at 6.30pm before the shows at 7.30pm

Bookings can be made by calling 883 7309.
