Quayle starts his time as an elected official with a bus tour that aims to familiarise councillors on some of the work council does throughout the region, council chief executive Vaughan Payne said.
Council chairman Alan Livingston said Quayle will receive support to bring him up to speed.
He is sworn in on April 27.
