The main concern at the moment is the high number of rural thefts taking place which is likely to become more of an issue as we approach June 1 with farmers moving properties around that time.
The message here is really to stay vigilant at all times and check to make sure property is where you left it.
A couple of reports we’ve received have been around stuff that has been seen a week and a half ago but when they have gone back to check it, it’s gone so it really is about knowing where things are and checking on them regularly.
Items such as chainsaws and tools are usually the main targets but we have also had motorbikes, fuel, and other farming equipment being stolen.
Most of this has been happening around the Old Taupo Rd area and out towards Mangakino but areas in Lichfield, Tirau, and Moffat Rd in Tokoroa have also been hit.
People need to be extra vigilant around isolated farms, down quite rural roads as that’s where the majority of this crime is taking place, and report any suspicious activity.
