New police to join the local ranks
Over the next four years the Bay of Plenty Police District is set to receive up to 80 of the extra 880 new sworn officers entering the New Zealand Police.
The extra police are funded by the Safer Communities package, announced by the Government in April.
In year one the district, which covers from Katikati to Turangi, incorporating the Western and Eastern Bay of Plenty, Rotorua and Taupo policing areas, will receive 15 of those.
Taupo Police Area Commander Inspector Warwick
‘‘We are one of the districts that is well under the pump.’’
