New po­lice to join the lo­cal ranks

Over the next four years the Bay of Plenty Po­lice District is set to re­ceive up to 80 of the ex­tra 880 new sworn of­fi­cers en­ter­ing the New Zealand Po­lice.

The ex­tra po­lice are funded by the Safer Com­mu­ni­ties pack­age, an­nounced by the Gov­ern­ment in April.

In year one the district, which cov­ers from Katikati to Tu­rangi, in­cor­po­rat­ing the Western and Eastern Bay of Plenty, Ro­torua and Taupo polic­ing ar­eas, will re­ceive 15 of those.
