Toko­roa AFC Men’s Foot­ball back on top

A win was needed and a win was gained by the Toko­roa AFC Men’s Foot­ball Team.

The Toko­roa team will be back amongst the big boys in 2018 fol­low­ing their 3-0 win against Mata­mata on Satur­day.

The win sealed the team’s pro­mo­tion to the WAIBOP Fed­er­a­tion Pre­mier­ship which is the first time in 24 years.

Need­ing a win to guar­an­tee the move up, Toko­roa be­gan the game ner­vously but man­aged to stay in con­trol.

The team soon took the lead fol­low­ing a pow­er­ful over­lap­ping

run from full­back Jacky Mon­teith, who linked with Narinder Singh to pro­duce a composed fin­ish to ease the ten­sion of the large num­ber of sup­port­ers.

Cap­tain Chris Teague dou­bled the ad­van­tage right on half­time with an easy fin­ish from a cor­ner.

De­spite nu­mer­ous op­por­tu­ni­ties in the sec­ond half it was left to a com­i­cal own goal to round out the scor­ing, spark­ing wild scenes of cel­e­bra­tion at the final whis­tle.

Coach Dean Tereu paid trib­ute to his play­ers and in par­tic­u­lar Gareth Wil­liams, Jackson and Lo­gan Allen, Kee­gan Willis, Chris Teague and goal­keeper Zac Cos­grove.

‘‘It is a very proud mo­ment for our club. The last time we gained pro­mo­tion to this level was back in 1992,’’ he said.
