INTERNET SCAMMING

South Waikato News - - Backyard Banter -

People are also finding themselves victims to scams and fraud due to phone calls and computer hacking.

These people have been scamming others to the extent of several thousand dollars.

They call people saying they have won a various amount of money and they need you to pass on your bank details. Do not do this, as this is how they are gaining access and stealing money.

The first question you have to ask yourself is, did I enter into a competition? Because if you didn’t enter into a competition then you can’t win it.

Another access point for the scammers is through emails with links. If you get an email from an unknown person with a link saying you have won, do not open it. This is how they gain access to all your personal information, and you can not stop it.

Unfortunately the majority of these scams are being conducted out of the country, therefore there is nothing we can do.
