Living in a nature wonderland
Driving through the Ararimu Valley on a sunny spring morning you feel it’s great to be alive. Arriving at Farquharson Rd just south of Hunua Village you realise you’re not the first person to come to that conclusion – a number of privately situated lifestyle homes have been set up here in this beautiful part of the world.
The property at 43 Farquharson Rd is a delightful example. Vicki and Leon say all the hard work was done when they bought the home and 9748 square metre property and that they’ve had the good fortune to enjoy it all. That may be so, but they have maintained it in beautiful condition as the trees and grounds have matured into a garden of Eden.
The home and its adjacent sleepout fit perfectly into the environment. With three good-sized bedrooms and bathroom either side of a terrific kitchen and open plan living-dining area, the house seems to draw the outdoors in.
Ranchsliders open onto a covered deck running the full length of the house. The decks then extend out to create the ultimate outdoor living area, complete with swimming pool and a fabulous playground that kids will adore. The pool’s massive pump would run a much larger inground pool.
Matching the house design, the neat and tidy sleepout comprises a spacious bedsit room, toilet with wash basin, and laundry. It also has an outdoor stereo system for the decks.
The formal gardens spread out in gorgeous fashion from the house and decks, the lawn and box hedging perfectly manicured.
Every specimen tree in existence seems to be represented; and the stone fruit and citrus tree are just as impressive. ‘‘The trees thrive here,’’ Vicki says, ‘‘the plum tree and olives just groan with so much fruit.’’
There are also raised and irrigated vegetable gardens, and six small water-fed paddocks.
With two 20,000 litre tanks the property is unlikely to run short of water. All the lawns and gardens are well irrigated and the entire property down as far as the paddocks is weed matted. There’s also solar heating on the house roof.
The pasture was originally formed as two large paddocks with solid post and rail fencing. These are currently sub-divided into three small paddocks each.
It’s a perfect lifestyle situation for a family who love ponies, farm pets for school calf days, or want a small amount of grazing land with some shade trees for their stock.
It is truly an idyllic setting. ‘‘The nights out here, with the stars and the moon, are just incredible,’’ Vicki says.
43 Farquharson Rd Hunua goes to auction on Sunday December 14, onsite at 2pm. Open homes Thursday 4.30-5.30pm; Saturday and Sunday 2.30-3.30pm.
