Builder’s own home shows its class

Southern Real Estate Guide - - FRONT PAGE -

If Wellington is ‘Absolutely, Positively’ then perhaps Papakura Town should stake the claim, ‘Full of Surprises.’ So many of its property gems are hidden away in quiet corners, homes of quality enjoying oodles of space.

One of the best examples is to be found at 75B Beach Road – the end property of an enclave of homes tucked away down a private laneway.

The 1960s home was built as the family home by prominent local builder Andy Carr, who was definitely a man ahead of his time when it came to forward thinking design.

Carr really indulged himself in terms of design, materials and construction skills. This home is wonderfully informal, with living spaces full of natural light and flow, and beautiful garden outlooks. In a home designed without hallways, there is always a window, always something to see. The wide variety of building materials ranges from timber to brick, cork to slate and glass to solid stone – there are also high beamed and sarked ceilings, beautiful floors and cabinetry.

From the entrance with its thoughtful ‘cloakroom’, the home opens out to large living and dining spaces complete with woodburner and heat pump (one of two heat pumps). There are sliding doors seemingly everywhere, leading to delightful garden or patio settings so you can follow the sun all day.

The large farmhouse-style kitchen has masses of storage and food prep space; it’s central to the main living/dining and also another family room in a sunny situation, with a large modern bay window and access to a patio which is perfectly situated for afternoon drinks or evening dining.

There are three double bedrooms and two bathrooms; the master bedroom with semi en suite.

The large garage/workshop contains a good-sized, lined office; there’s also a carport, a covered trailer port and garden shed.

The grounds contain many beautiful plant species in both riverstone and edged border gardens, with flower colour, box hedgerows and a terrific climbing tree. The property backs onto the playing fields of St Mary’s School, extending the green spaces.

Situated in the Rosehill zone, 75B Beach Road is only a minute’s drive from the motorway despite its quiet and private location.

With the owner having bought in Whitianga, this property must be sold. The auction takes place on Wednesday September 21, onsite at 5pm unless sold prior.

This builder’s own family home was constructed by one of Papakura’s finest builders in the 1960s – yet it’s totally contemporary today.

A dining room fit for a banquet adjoins the main lounge.

The garden’s green spaces seem to stretch beyond its boundaries.

This family room with its gorgeous garden outlook is just one of the living spaces.
