A home for the generations

Southern Real Estate Guide - - FRONT PAGE -

Given the opportunity to plan their dream home from the ground up, owners Mazin and Stella thought beyond their immediate needs.

‘‘We wanted to have a home the whole family could stay in, in both privacy and comfort.’’

They envisaged having two genuine homes on one building platform, each providing separate living without compromising on quality on either side. They took their ideas to Jalcon Homes, who designed and built a home of extraordinarily generous proportions - its 549 square metre floor area being larger than many nearby sections! The property itself is 1555 square metres.

Eight years on, the home above Flat Bush still looks like new, a legacy of outstanding planning, uncompromising quality in the choice of materials, and an obvious pride in the place.

The layout sees a five-bedroom, three-bathroom main residence with three separate living areas, stunning kitchen and outdoor living; plus a second, sound-proofed living quarters with three-bedrooms and the same lovely outdoor access and outlook. The home borders onto a fine natural reserve of which the owners have a 1/66th share of ownership.

Three generations of the family have enjoyed the delights of home and property. It has commanding views north and west, from the Sky tower to the Manukau Heads as well as southern vistas.

The best views of all are on the top floor, especially from the master bedroom with its floor-toceiling windows. It also boasts an en suite larger than most family bathrooms, complete with big shower, spa bath and double vanity.

There are four bedrooms on this top level, three with walk-in wardrobes; plus a large mezzanine study area, children’s lounge and beautifully appointed family bathroom.

The downstairs living has to be seen to be believed. Hub of the house is the superb kitchen with its beautiful tiles and stone surfaces, large walk-in scullery, central island and top quality appliances all of which seem mega-sized.

It shares an open plan layout with a large family room with spacious casual living and dining areas. This leads to covered and uncovered deck areas which spill onto the lawn and merge with the reserve – the perfect location for summer entertaining and kids’ play.

As if this weren’t enough, there are elegant formal dining and living rooms leading off an impressive entrance way.

Although completely contemporary, the rooms bear all the hallmarks of traditional craftsmanship and finishing.

Such space and privacy, so clever in its catering for extended family, 27 Sovereign Street is surprisingly only five minutes from schools, shopping and all the necessities.

The property is for sale by negotiation.
