Making a fresh start in Papakura

Southern Real Estate Guide - - FRONT PAGE -

Starting afresh at 25 Green Street doesn’t mean rejecting the past. This delightful Papakura home offers a superb blend of original quality features and fresh, clean modern living.

When the present owners bought the cottage they planned their renovations around its solid, circa 1950s weatherboard heritage, high ceilings and wide hallway.

Next they poured their creativity and passion into a genuine transformation of the home, from floor to ceiling. Or should we say, from under the floor, behind the walls and above the ceiling as they totally insulated the home both vertically and horizontally. The home was also upgraded with rewiring and plumbing, a new hot water cylinder installed and the latest smoke/fire alarms fitted.

They created a beautiful central living area with attractive French door access to a brand new northfacing deck with a Clearlite UV- resistant PVC roof.

The same roofing was installed over the carport, providing covered access to the house. Meanwhile, while the home was being insulated, the roof was fully checked and given a clean bill of health.

Inside the front door the broad, welcoming hallway leads to the central living area and three lightfilled bedrooms. The master bedroom retains the beautiful high ceilings and decorative touches, and everything has been treated to fresh paint with a refreshing hint of mint – you can almost smell it. Add the brand new bedroom blinds and it’s like moving into a new home.

The kitchen and bathroom have also been totally transformed – the kitchen is just lovely, with lots of bench space and storage, and room for a breakfast table. New appliances include a ceramic hob, rangehood and under-bench oven. There’s a laundry attached to the kitchen with its own bench, sink and storage cupboard.

It really is a clever use of space throughout, turning a cottage into a charming home. The 374 square metre freehold property is entirely surrounded by walls, fences and wrought-iron gates; a neat and tidy flat section that’s just a stroll from everything including highlyregarded Central School, shops and trains.

Price is by negotiation, with viewing by appointment.
