Brookby retreat: nothing comes close

Southern Real Estate Guide - - FRONT PAGE -

Set amid distinctive formal grounds and surrounded by native bush, 82 Brookby Rd allows you to experience the countryside in a way you’ve never imagined possible.

Life is blissfully uncomplicated at Brookby, a highly sought-after lifestyle location. It is far away from the crowds and traffic but an easy drive to Clevedon and Whitford, and approximately 10 minutes to the motorway.

In our experience it is rare for lifestyle blocks to come on the market in these parts.

Exceptionally secluded and sunny, the 8660 square metre property is accessed via a residents-only driveway with an overhang of lush oak canopy. It is fringed by native bush and a backdrop of mature trees that offer nesting space for a variety of native birdlife. Adding to the charm are the sweeping views of the rolling land and the hills in the distance. In our view, the property is ideal for an executive family seeking a rural retreat close to the Auckland fringe.

The current owners originally lived in St Heliers but moved here six years ago because their daughter is a keen horse rider.

‘‘Here she had all the space and time for her equine pursuits,’’ they say.

You will be impressed by the scale of the house, with the substantial spaces designed for family comfort and year-round entertaining. The flow is so exceptional that it’s hard to tell the demarcation between the indoors and outdoors. Extensively renovated by the current family after they moved in, the home remains fresh and contemporary.

The massive formal and family living areas capture the essence of the property. Besides allowing light to cascade in from multiple angles, they open out to a sheltered alfresco courtyard and the landscaped lawns. You could sit here all day, soak up the view, watch the finches dart in and out, and congratulate yourself on your acquisition.

The opulent kitchen – with American oak flooring – is built to cater for intimate family meals as well as serve large gatherings. It opens out to a private BBQ courtyard which is sheltered from the wind from all sides.

The sleeping accommodation comprises five bedrooms served by three bathrooms. One of the bedrooms, with en suite and large dual aspect windows, is located separately which suits guests or elderly parents. The other bedrooms are located in a separate wing with extra wide hallways, and include the master with a king-sized en suite and walk-in wardrobe.

Your parking options include a double internal access garage with loads of extra space plus off-street space for several more vehicles. The property comes with a large capacity water purification system.

With their daughter no longer riding horses, the owners are looking at other options. Giving up their pride and joy, however, won’t be easy and they know that.

‘‘No matter where we go, we will always miss this very special property,’’ they say.

Extensively renovated by the current family after they moved in, the home remains fresh and contemporary.
