Jordan cuts out third place
Stratford wood chopper Shane Jordan has come third at the international Stihl Timbersports Champions Trophy 2019 Competition.
Held at the Fieldays, Mystery Creek, Jason Wynyard was the winner of the competition and Jesse Whitehead came second.
Eight of New Zealand’s top logger sports athletes went head-to-head in four axe and saw disciplines during the competition for the opportunity to represent New Zealand at the highest level next year in the international individual competition.
This is the first time an official Stihl Timbersports event has been held in New Zealand.
Wynyard was thrilled with his win.
“It was a tough competition, there’s a lot of keen young guys out there and it shows. So, I’m stoked to have taken it out.
“I’ll be back in the gym and practising as soon as possible, strength is a huge factor in the competition, but it really comes down to precision, that’ll be my focus for my preparation.”
Stihl New Zealand marketing manager Stace Hall says he is delighted with the success of the inaugural New Zealand event.
“Stihl Timbersports is the original extreme sport, just look at the guys we have here today, they are athletes.
“Surrounded by innovation and Kiwi ingenuity, we knew that Fieldays was the best place to launch the first official competition in New Zealand.
“The athletes in attendance were exceptional and if the reactions of the crowd were anything to go by, they’ll be back in numbers next year expecting bigger and better things.”
