THE sister of a woman who had last night been missing for more than 36 hours has described her as a ‘‘a tiny little thing and the life of the party’’.

Kim Bambus went missing after heading to the West Auckland beach Piha on Friday to go jogging. Police last night said they had concerns that she didn’t have enough food and drink on her to sustain her and she had now been missing a second night.

Sister Storm Bambus last night said she had driven down from the Bay of Islands and her parents had arrived from Great Barrier Island to join the hunt for the 21-year-old, who is a registered nurse at Middlemore Hospital.

‘‘Kim is very independent and it isn’t unusual for her to go running alone, though Piha wasn’t her usual destination,’’ Storm said. ‘‘She was there a couple of weeks ago, though.

‘‘Hopefully she’s just lost – it would be great to have as many people out there as possible searching.’’

Bambus was last seen in Ponsonby on Friday morning, before heading to the coast. Her flatmates raised the alarm when she didn’t arrive back that night and her car was found on Log Race Rd, Piha, with her mobile phone inside. It was believed she headed down the Ahuahu Track.

The police search – which included around 25 to 30 officers and volunteers with dogs and a helicopter – continued throughout yesterday as Scott Iszard of the Search and Rescue team said he feared she would not have enough food and drink on her to sustain her.

He said the team was exploring the possibility that she was supposed to meet someone before her run and that she ‘‘was possibly injured’’.

Bambus was last seen wearing a dark jacket, pink exercise top, black shorts and black and white Nike exercise shoes. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail and she carried a large water bottle.
