Cricket: New Zealand seamer Neil Wag­ner has helped Es­sex to their first English County Cham­pi­onship in 25 years in their first sea­son back in the top di­vi­sion. Es­sex clinched the ti­tle with two games to spare af­ter near­est ri­val Lan­cashire lost to Som­er­set, giv­ing them an an unas­sail­able lead in the Di­vi­sion One stand­ings. Un­beaten in the league, Es­sex are only the sec­ond county since two di­vi­sions were in­tro­duced to English cricket’s four-day for­mat in 2000 to win the cham­pi­onship hav­ing been pro­moted the pre­vi­ous sea­son. The New Zealand test spe­cial­ist, ranked 10th in the ICC bowler rank­ings, has played a to­tal of eight matches this sea­son, tak­ing 24 wick­ets at an av­er­age of 41.37.
