I’d love it, if, when peo­ple see me out they don’t go ‘oh that’s that guy from The Bach­e­lor’ and in­stead say ‘oh that’s the guy who’s done some re­ally good work for men­tal health’,’’ he says.

Ruakere has cho­sen The Breast Can­cer Foun­da­tion as her char­ity of choice fol­low­ing the 2015 death of her best friend He­lena McAlpine, who, at 38, had lived with breast can­cer for 10 years .

Ruakere says she has seen the foun­da­tion’s im­pact help­ing her friends and wha¯nau. "There’s a his­tory of it in my wha¯nau. It is some­thing that af­fects so many in our coun­try – women and men. I’ve seen how com­mit­ted and compassionate the won­der­ful Foun­da­tion wahine are, and I’d love to be able to help them,’’ she says.

A fur­ther two stars are yet to be named for the show.
