The Huyana Pic­chu is open daily from Machu Pic­chu. Tourist sea­son is May to Septem­ber, the dry sea­son. Peak sea­son July/Au­gust. Be­cause this is one of the world’s pre­mium at­trac­tions, there are nu­mer­ous pack­age op­tions avail­able. The 300m as­cent of Huayna Pic­chu from Mac­chu Pic­chu re­quires mod­er­ate fit­ness and agility; suf­fer­ers of ver­tigo need not ap­ply.

Get­ting there:

Air New Zealand flies from Auck­land to Los An­ge­les two to three times a day. From LA, United Air­lines (Star Al­liance part­ner), Amer­i­can Air­lines and other car­ri­ers fly to Lima, Peru. From Lima, most tourists travel Peru Rail from Lima to Cusco, then af­ter a few days’ sight see­ing, con­tinue by train to Aguas Calientes. From there, shut­tle buses travel ev­ery 15-30 min­utes to Machu Pic­chu.
