The Huyana Picchu is open daily from Machu Picchu. Tourist season is May to September, the dry season. Peak season July/August. Because this is one of the world’s premium attractions, there are numerous package options available. The 300m ascent of Huayna Picchu from Macchu Picchu requires moderate fitness and agility; sufferers of vertigo need not apply.
Air New Zealand flies from Auckland to Los Angeles two to three times a day. From LA, United Airlines (Star Alliance partner), American Airlines and other carriers fly to Lima, Peru. From Lima, most tourists travel Peru Rail from Lima to Cusco, then after a few days’ sight seeing, continue by train to Aguas Calientes. From there, shuttle buses travel every 15-30 minutes to Machu Picchu.
