Tyler, The Creator

Flower Boy (Sony) ★★★★ Absolutely no stranger to controversy, California’s golden boy has once again caused a stir in the media. Despite being labelled by many as a homophobe (he used the word faggot 213 times on his debut) it would now possibly appear he’s confessing to his own homosexuality with several veiled references to it on this fourth studio album. Whether he’s genuinely coming out or trolling remains to be seen. That aside Tyler still proves himself as one of the most distinctive voices in rap with an eclectic album that can be both slow and dreamy (Garden Shed), and loud and aggressive (Who Dat Boy). Regardless of what you think of Tyler, the sheer force of his hip-hop can’t be denied. - Hugh Collins
