Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick, $58. It’s hard to know what came first, my rediscovered love of lipstick or the great new formulations that tempted me back from gloss. Whatever it was, Chanel’s Rouge Allure was my ultimate lipstick last year, thanks to its creamy, eyepopping new colours and the opulent black and gold packaging. Honorable mention: Shiseido Perfect Rouge lipstick, $50. Another awesomely creamy yet long-wearing lipstick, available in a range of yummy colours. Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream, $55. Generally speaking, I don’t like to recommend anti-ageing products because nothing ever lives up to our ridiculously high expectations. However, in independent clinical trials this little star was found to stimulate the synthesis of collagen by 92 percent after 48 hours, so for it I made an exception. It’s also natural, relatively inexpensive and locally made. Honorable mentions: Prevage Eye Advanced Anti-aging Serum, $184, and Prevage Eye Ultra Protection Anti-aging Moisturizer, $184. Elizabeth Arden kept making its much-loved Prevage range even better in 2010, and these new eye products were a double threat for wrinkles and whatnot around the eye area. Neutrogena Spectrum+ Advanced Sunblock Lotion with Helioplex SPF 100+, $25. In my opinion Neutrogena continues to produce the most effective sunscreens around. They offer high SPFs and broad-spectrum coverage, and soak into skin quickly. They might not have the most glamorous packaging or the finest fragrance, but when the alternative is wrinkles and pigmentation, who’s gonna quibble? Honorable mention: True Solutions All Day Moisture Tinted SPF 30+, $61. A light, creamy and subtly tinted moisturiser, this was my summerholiday staple. Diptyque Eau Duelle, EDT 100ml $214. On the whole, 2010’s fragrance releases were a little bland. This drove many of us to search out the unique and unusual, even if it cost a little more. Diptyque’s spicy, musky vanilla was my most commented-on scent of the year. Honorable mention: Love Chloé, EDP 50ml $144. A deliciously powdery, grown-up scent, and the perfect match for the minimally luxe look the French fashion house perfected last year. Lancôme Hypnôse Precious Cells Mascara, $62. In 2010 we didn’t just want our mascara to blacken, lengthen and thicken, we also wanted it to nourish, nurture and be endorsed by one of the most iconic
