Education Minister Nikki Kaye has a history of extra-curriculars. The National Party’s Auckland Central MP, who has degrees in genetics and law, is also a marathoner, multisport athlete and Coast to Coast alumni. She has a greenie streak for a blue party member. She’s not shy about social issues – she helped bring the Pride Parade back to Auckland, and following her return from leave after being treated for breast cancer, has spoken in favour of increasing access to medicinal cannabis.

One topic she would not be swayed on, however, was choosing between her beloved cats Lilly and Charlie – “even though cats can’t read” as one of her staff said.

Kaye willingly undertook the rest of our Sunday Grill.
