Twelve years ago, Justin Marshall played his final 30 minutes of rugby in the All Black jersey.
The “disastrous” Lions Tour of 2005 was the first since 1993. Marshall replaced Byron Kelleher in the second half of the final test match, which the All Blacks won 38-19. Indeed, the All Blacks triumphed in all three test matches that tour – the first time in more than two decades the Lions had suffered such a grim defeat.
These days, 43-year-old Marshall, who was born and bred in Gore before swapping smalltown life for the thriving metropolis of Christchurch, can be found in a suit on the sidelines, providing commentary on the game he played for more than 20 years. We submitted him to a Sunday Grill.
Justin Marshall will provide commentary for the All Blacks v British and Irish Lions series final live on SKY Sport 1, on July 8 at 7.35pm.
