Brown clothes have shaken off their long 1970s hang­over, and are the sur­prise run­away hit shade of the sum­mer.

Many of the pieces avail­able lo­cally lean to­wards an­other keyy colour for the sum­mer sea­son – rust or­ange – but the e pieces cho­sen for to­day’s spread read as more brown n than any other shade when seen on their own.

It’s been a slow pro­gres­sion to pop­u­lar­ity for the dirt-toned hue. Tan and beige have been on high-ro­tate in re­cent years, but hard-core cho­co­late brown has been slow to take. Lo­cal la­bel Marle has gone all in – of­fer­ing it in silk as a sim­ple but slinky T-shirt-shaped top in its spring range, while for its Re­sort col­lec­tion (in store later this month) the brand is of­fer­ing this fetch­ing (and very 70s) wrap linen skirt, as well as a ruf­fle-edged cami, romper and other tex­tu­ral treats in the same fab­ric.
