A sui­cide bomber blew him­self up near the Grand Mosque in Mecca yes­ter­day as police dis­rupted a plot to tar­get the holi­est site in Is­lam as the fast­ing month of Ra­madan is end­ing, Saudi se­cu­rity forces said. The In­te­rior Min­istry said it launched raids in Jid­dah prov­ince and two ar­eas in Mecca, in­clud­ing the Ajyad Al-Masafi neigh­bour­hood near the Grand Mosque. They en­gaged in a shootout at a three-storey house with the sui­cide bomber, who blew him­self up, caus­ing the build­ing to col­lapse. The blast wounded six for­eign­ers and five mem­bers of the se­cu­rity forces.
