Gun promo prank

United States retailer Walmart is having all sorts of promotions for the back-to-school season in America, but selling firearms isn’t one of them. The company said yesterday an internal investigation had determined that it was pranked when a photograph emerged on social media showing a sign reading ‘‘Own The School Year Like A Hero’’ atop a gun case in one of its stores. Spokesman Charles Crowson wouldn’t say whether an image was manipulated, or if a customer had moved the sign for a joke, or if an employee deliberately or inadvertently placed the sign on the wrong display. After the post appeared this week, people criticised the company on social media, expressing disgust.
