City-dwellers looking for a beach bach for their summer escape didn’t venture far this silly season.

The Coromandel was Bookabach’s most popular spot to rent between December 22 and January 7, with 1034 bookings and an average stay of six nights. Lake Taupo¯ was next, with 705 bookings, and an average stay of five nights. Tauranga and Mt Maunganui were third and Rotorua fourth. Coromandel baches averaged $323 a night, and Tauranga and the Mount’s $365. Marlborough baches were the most expensive, at $521 a night.
