Military money

Sunday Star-Times - - FOCUS -

If a whole $10,000 spent on entertaining overseas military top brass is the most newsworthy event in New Zealand and around the world to have come to your attention in the previous seven days (‘‘Top brass travel in class’’, May 27), it is good to know that peace has broken out all over the world, no one is hungry, all the cows are healthy, there’s no refugee crisis, President Donald Trump shot himself in the foot yet again and there was no referendum in Ireland.

Of course the list of events which you don’t think are newsworthy could be much longer.

One aspect of this thrilling story is the possibility this was a return of equivalent hospitality shown to this person during his career.

Maybe it is my fault for not realising that the New Zealand economy is in such dire straits that this expenditure has triggered off a major depression.
