Walsh second

Sunday Star-Times - - SPORT -

Athletics: Twenty-four hours after one of his most notable performances of the year, Kiwi shot put ace Tom Walsh could not quite recapture the magic in Poland. The double world champion (indoors and out) and Commonwealth Games gold medal winner was backing up, along with much of the field, just a night after his clutch Diamond League victory in Oslo when he pipped archrival and American Olympic champion Ryan Crouser by 8cm with his final throw – a mammoth 22.29 metres. But it was the 2.03m giant from Oregon who produced the big throw at the Janusz Kusocinski memorial meet in in Chorzow, with a winning toss of 22.27m that smashed the Polish all-comers record and handed the American a third victory from four matchups against his Kiwi nemesis this year. Walsh finished second with a best throw of 21.63m.
