Miracle of life
Has David Slack read the book Everyday Miracle – Birth?
It is the obvious prequel to his excellent commentary on the wonders of human development (‘‘A baby is an everyday miracle’’, Focus, June 17). Whereas he mentioned his daughter’s preborn existence in merely a single sentence, going on to sketch the following years’ marvels, the book describes that earlier ‘‘miracle’’ in detail.
From the time of conception, his daughter commenced a remarkable journey to birth. Her initial cell underwent a continuing multiplying explosion into billions more designed to culminate in the stage she is today.
In a process of amazing change during that nine months and since, one thing has remained constant – her humanity.
She is the same unique person today that she was at conception. Slack has lent his articulate voice to this incontrovertible truth. Are Jacinda Ardern, Andrew Little and the members of the Law Commission listening?
