St John in Taranaki has received a major financial boost of almost $30,000, thanks to rural contractors.

The Rural Contractors New Zealand (RCNZ) annual conference, held in New Plymouth last week, runs a charity auction and this year the proceeds were destined for Taranaki St John.

Central region chair Doug Ashby was delighted with the donation and thanked the organisation for its generosity. He said the $28,400 would be put to good use and would allow St John to expand its service base in the region.

RCNZ chief executive Roger Parton said sponsors provide gifts for the auction and all the money raised was donated locally.

‘‘We had a good haul of products put up by sponsors including a tractor, GPS unit, weighing scales, spray, oil, fuel and numerous model tractors and machinery with our members digging deep to benefit St John.’’

Mr Parton said the sum raised was a record haul and topped the $24,000 raised in Cromwell last year.

‘‘This sum will be now donated to St John in Taranaki to help them continue on with all the fantastic work they do for the community in the region.’’
