Armed police raided two Waitara properties yesterday looking for guns, drugs and stolen property. Search warrants were executed at the addresses by members of the police Armed Offenders Squad, Tactical Crime Unit, CIB detectives and the Traffic and Alcohol group. Roads were cordoned off as police swooped on the properties. Three men, two aged 24 and one aged 21, were arrested and drugs and firearms seized during the raids, Senior Constable Peter Lawn of the TCU said. ‘‘The search warrants were in relation to drugs, firearms and stolen property,’’ Lawn said. Two of the men are due to appear in the New Plymouth District Court today facing charges including possession of methamphetamine, commission of a crime using a firearm and possession of an offensive weapon. The third has been released on bail to appear at a later date. ‘‘I want to reassure the community that police will continue to actively seek out those who are in possession of illegal firearms, methamphetamine and receivers of stolen goods.’’ Lawn thanked members of the public for their patience while the cordons were in place.
