Trump ‘op­posed to vi­o­lence’

US Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump yes­ter­day de­clared he is ‘‘to­tally op­posed to do­mes­tic vi­o­lence of any kind’’ as the White House sought to tamp down the grow­ing con­tro­versy sur­round­ing for­mer aide Rob Porter, who re­signed last week af­ter fac­ing al­le­ga­tions that he abused his two exwives. Trump de­clined to an­swer fol­lowup ques­tions. White House of­fi­cials have of­fered con­flict­ing time­lines over how long chief of staff John Kelly and other aides had known about the abuse al­le­ga­tions and why they did not act to re­move Porter ear­lier.
