THE WEEK THIS ISSUE went to print, Auckland was enjoying a rare late-winter sunny spell. It’s amazing what a hit of vitamin D can do to improve your mood and productivity, which is exactly what I needed on deadline week! Also amazing is the effect it has on your appetite; all of a sudden I find myself dreaming of crisp salads and light pasta dishes, or a piece of delicate white fish cooked in butter and dressed simply with a lick of lemon and a sprinkling of capers.

This probably also has something to do with the inspiration I’ve found in the pages of this issue. Our clever contributors have really gone to town with new-season goodness and I want to make absolutely everything! First on the list is definitely our cover recipe by new team member Jo Wilcox (meet her on page 11). We think it perfectly illustrates our food philosophy of “easy but impressive”. Another fave from the issue is our extract from Al Brown’s new book, Eat Up, on page 110. It’s not out until later in September, but he let us give you guys a sneak peek. I think it’s his best work yet and it’s going to take pride of place on my coffee table. Cheers to a new season and let’s hope for plenty more sunshine to come!
