Taupo win urban ride
Taupo’s Lion’s Walk has been the voted the best of the business as it takes out the Urban Ride or Commute category as a top place to ride.
The NZ Transport Agency’s annual Favourite Places to Ride competition proved more popular than ever as they received almost 10,000 nominations across the four categories - Nga Haerenga – NZ Cycle Trail, Off-Road or Adventure Ride, Urban Ride or Commute and Community Facility.
Taupo was the only place in the country to have a ride in the top three of every category.
The Great Lake Trail also placed second in the Nga Haerenga – NZ Cycle Trail category, Kids Bike Taupo placed second in the Community Facility category and Craters Mountain Bike Park placed third in the Off Road/Adventure Ride category.
The shared cycling and walking path, following the shores of Lake Taupo¯ from the town centre to Five Mile Bay, competed against 24 other rides to be named New Zealand’s best urban ride.
