Look good and feel better
Gaelene Falconer has been in Taupo helping to lift the spirits of women with cancer.
Falconer is the Look Good Feel Better Bay of Plenty tutor and her goal is to help with the visible side effects of cancer treatment, including hair loss, eyebrows, eyelashes and other skin related issues.
The service is based out of a portable shipping container and has been making its way around New Zealand, to provide useful advice and help women connect with each other.
She said the two-hour class provides an opportunity to relax, have fun, feel special, do something practical and be proactive.
Women are given gift packs to help them regain control of how they feel.
‘‘It’s all about getting together and having a good time laughing and not thinking about their journey,’’ she said.
Falconer said events like these provide support and allow women to form relationships and allows them to feel like they aren’t doing it alone.
The programme is supported and by the Cancer Society of New Zealand and assisted by the Cosmetic Toiletry and Fragrance Association of New Zealand(CTFA). A men’s programme may also be on the way soon.
‘‘There is nothing for men like this,’’ she said ‘‘It’s going to be amazing, watch the space.’’
