Taupo mum faces off against Nadia Lim
She cooks, shares recipes, writes blogs and has taken the social media world by storm but calls herself ’’Just a Mum.’’
Taupo woman Anna Cameron is a social media sensation under the name ‘Just a Mum’, and her success has propelled her into the final five of the New Zealand Social Media Awards [NZSMA], against some of the biggest names in the business.
‘‘To be nominated it is surreal and surprising,’’ she said.
To make the final group, along with well known names like Nadia Lim and ‘How To Dad’ was ‘‘amazing’’ she said.
‘‘I decided to enter the competition late at night without telling anyone. I didn’t even tell my husband.’’
It wasn’t until Cameron was notified that she had made the top five that she told anyone. ‘‘I feel pretty blessed,’’ she said. Cameron has been a blogger for the past three and a half years, after she decided to share her recipes with the world.
‘‘People kept asking me for recipes. Out of boredom I started typing them up, now they are looked at all over the world.’’
Since starting her blog, social media has played a strong role in directing traffic to her recipes.
Cameron said her blog and social media started off as a hobby but had become a business.
Cameron said she has done things the hard way, including turning down coffee dates with friends and making sacrifices to get her business off the ground.
Cameron said people love ‘‘the basic simple’’ family recipes; ones that take people back to their childhood and bring back good memories
She shares recipes handed down by her grandmother, mother and aunty and are usually things that people can make with ingredients they already have in the cupboard.
‘‘The recipe that has gone viral is my butterscotch pudding,’’ she said, as it brings home comfort and smells.
Cameron said her target audience is mums who enjoy to cook and people who are generally interested in looking at food.
‘‘My main focus is my blog,’’ she said, as the majority of traffic comes from Facebook, she feeds social media to get her blog moving.
The awards event will be held in Auckland on August 23, to announce the winner of the New Zealand Social Media Awards and will be hosted by actress Kimberley Crossman.
