Tauhara dance group takes out championship
Tauhara College danced its way to success at the Dance NZmade competition at the Great Lake Centre on August 9.
Thirty-two students entered the competition, ten of which are in the dance crew SOLACE.
SOLACE competed at regionals taking out four of the five solo categories, plus got many choreography awards and a special director’s choice award, leaving Tauhara College the overall champions for Dance NZmade 2017.
Dance teacher Jacinda Wilson said she is proud of her students and how far they have come
‘‘Competitions like this give us an opportunity to help students with personal growth in so many areas.
‘‘They learn how to work as a team and get along with each other, cope with stress, take care of others and much more.’’
‘‘I get teary every time I think about how proud I am. I am very lucky to have such wonderful, hard working students,’’ she said.
This has been the most successful competitions SOLACE has competed in so far, taking out seven of the eight categories. ‘‘It was a tough competition.’’ From here two of the solo champions and three of the champion groups will go the National Dance NZmade competitions on September 23 in Palmerston North, to compete for the National title.
