Tauhara ski competition
Tauhara College students landed themselves 10 podium finishes and some of the top individual results in the Bay of Plenty snowsport Championship at Tauroa skifield.
On August 21 Twelve skiers and four snowboarders from Tauhara showed their snow skills competing against 70 participants from seven Bay of Plenty schools.
Assistant Principal at Tauhara College and ski coach Andrea Mertens, said the skiers have been training over the last 4 weeks.
She said most of the skiers spend every weekend on the mountain skiing, race training or practicing their slope style tricks.
‘‘I am very proud of our students who are very busy young people. Juggling their sport and school commitments is not easy but they set very high expectations for themselves and are very good at managing their time.’’
‘‘Snowboarding has been growing at our school and we are hoping to get more students interested in joining next year,’’ she said.
Giant Slalom snowboard Gold Winner Jaden Manu said ‘‘ I was stoked to win my races and I am proud of Tauhara College for achieving such an awesome set of results’’.
The next competition Tauhara College will take part in is the North Island Championships held on September 18-20.
