Tauhara ski com­pe­ti­tion


Tauhara Col­lege stu­dents landed them­selves 10 podium fin­ishes and some of the top in­di­vid­ual re­sults in the Bay of Plenty snows­port Cham­pi­onship at Tau­roa ski­field.

On Au­gust 21 Twelve skiers and four snow­board­ers from Tauhara showed their snow skills com­pet­ing against 70 par­tic­i­pants from seven Bay of Plenty schools.

As­sis­tant Prin­ci­pal at Tauhara Col­lege and ski coach An­drea Mertens, said the skiers have been train­ing over the last 4 weeks.

She said most of the skiers spend ev­ery week­end on the moun­tain ski­ing, race train­ing or prac­tic­ing their slope style tricks.

‘‘I am very proud of our stu­dents who are very busy young peo­ple. Jug­gling their sport and school com­mit­ments is not easy but they set very high ex­pec­ta­tions for them­selves and are very good at man­ag­ing their time.’’

‘‘Snow­board­ing has been grow­ing at our school and we are hop­ing to get more stu­dents in­ter­ested in join­ing next year,’’ she said.

Gi­ant Slalom snow­board Gold Win­ner Jaden Manu said ‘‘ I was stoked to win my races and I am proud of Tauhara Col­lege for achiev­ing such an awe­some set of re­sults’’.

The next com­pe­ti­tion Tauhara Col­lege will take part in is the North Is­land Cham­pi­onships held on Septem­ber 18-20.
