Winning the national title
Taupo¯ ’s Matthew Farquhar is the New Zealand Junior Indoor Bowls champion.
Farquhar  is from the Lake Taupo¯ Club and has won the national final of the 40th New Zealand Indoor Bowls Junior Singles held two weekends ago, at North Wellington Indoor Bowls Association Hall.
Farquhar said it was something he has been working hard on for the past six years and something he takes great pride in.
‘‘I am very happy with the win. There was a lot of trial and error,’’ he said.
‘‘But to come away with the title is incredible. As a junior under 18 it is the pinnacle, the biggest achievement you can get.’’
He said throughout his Bowling adventure and achievements his dad has been his biggest supporter, taking him around New Zealand and practicing to make the event final.
Farquhar said throughout the competition ‘‘He [dad] was more nervous then me.’’
Farquhar is the fourth Bay of Plenty junior to win the title, following in the footsteps of Shane Taare , Joseph Taare  and Keri Te Tamaki .
This capped of an amazing year for Farquhar who had won the North Island Secondary Schools Singles and Pairs recently at Mount Maunganui.
Farquhar said he is going to continue playing bowls and work his way to more wins.
