Hopes high for rash of new nappies
The movement away from disposable nappies to something more cost effective is getting a boost this month with the Taupo¯ Nappy Drive.
Pregnancy Help Inc. Coordinator Tracey Hutchings, said the idea behind the Nappy Drive was to ease the financial burden by encouraging the concept of reusable nappies.
She said introducing and encouraging reusables will reduce long term waste. Replacing one nappy a day was 365 less nappies a year.
She said there had been a big increase in the number of people choosing reusables over disposables.
‘‘People just want to try them but can’t afford them, so they come and see us.’’
Hutchings said the team at Pregnancy Help Inc. want to bump up their supplies of reusable and disposable nappies, to be able to pass on to people in need.
She said they also wanted to makelocal people aware that the service was available and for people to try it. The Pregnancy Help nappy service is free.
‘‘There is no criteria to come in, and all of our items are donated to us.’’ ‘‘It is here for anyone who can use it.’’ This service can be done by walking in or giving them a call.
Drop off locations for nappies can be found at Pregnancy Help Inc, Taupo¯ Parents Care, Taupo¯ Plunket, Taupo¯ Primary School, Taupo¯ Family Playcentre, Mountview School and Waipahihi School.
