The real reason

Taupo & Turangi Weekender - - News -

Last week in the local press, two correspondents submitted letters that seemed to indicate their very mistaken view that the Taupo¯ District Council building on the lakefront was vacated and demolished simply because of an asbestos scare. Totally incorrect — the asbestos scare was only one of several factors leading to a very wise decision to move. The building had roof problems, upgrading was required for catastrophic event safety, very expensive, and the complex was built to accommodate a staff much smaller than now required, so the building was not fit for purpose. So it was wisely decided putting money into an old building was not prudent and new, well designed premises were needed. Before people write to the press it is sad they do not read the information put out by the council. DON LOCKE
