Animals great and small to be blessed
Furred or feathered. Great or small. Well-behaved and maybe just a little bit naughty — they are all welcome at St Andrew’s Anglican Church this Sunday, October 7 at 10am for the annual Blessing of the Animals family service.
In association with the Taupo¯ SPCA, the church invites all creatures on leads or in cages to an annual service commemorating the festival of St Francis of Assisi. The radical 13th century monk became famous for being just as likely to preach to animals as to human beings and is known as the patron saint of animals and the environment.
It is customary for Catholic and Anglican churches to hold ceremonies blessing animals on his feast day each October and all pets able to fit through the front door, and their owners are welcome at the Blessing of the Animals.
Bring your precious pet or a photograph of a loved pet no longer here, to receive a special blessing. As part of the service, donations of money or food for any type of animal for the Taupo¯ SPCA Animal Centre are welcome at the service or can be left in the box provided in the church.
